The Daring Boys’ Club is a new opportunity for boys to engage with each other, the outdoors, science, geography, games, crafts, community, and much more while building skills, confidence, and values.
The following is the Daring Boys’ Club Code:
We are daring boys. We are curious and courageous, independent and cooperative, skillful and thoughtful. In the spirit of adventure and friendship, we dare to try new things that help us develop new abilities and improve upon our best qualities.
We meet every couple of weeks and take turns meeting in members’ homes or other locations. Parents take turns facilitating sessions based on their interests. We are currently only operating in Eugene, Oregon, but hoping to expand. If you are interested check out our Get Involved page.
My eldest son got The Dangerous Book for Boys as a present a few years ago, and though we were both excited by it, weeks and months went by and we hadn’t done anything with it. I thought about how fun it would be to do such activities together with other boys and how a group approach might be a good motivator for actually getting around to it. This idea for a organized/facilitated boys’ activity group kept coming back to me. As mother of three sons, daily life feels a bit like being in a boys’ club already, but I increasingly felt a desire for my boys to participate in a structured experience that celebrated boyhood. One that challenged them in areas they might not explore on their own and encouraged them to be strong, daring, creative, and courageous in the broadest sense of those terms. I looked for something to match my vision, but finding nothing quite like it, I decided to create it.
